The Transfiguration of Our Lord

We celebrate the Transfiguration of Our Lord on August 6th.  The liturgical colour is white or gold.

St Luke tells us that about eight days after Peter’s confession – his declaration that Jesus is the Messiah – Jesus went up on the mountain to pray.  He took with him Peter, James and John.  And as Jesus prayed his appearance changed, he was transfigured.  His face shone like the sun and his clothes were dazzling white.  A cloud overshadowed them and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased: listen to him”.

You can read accounts of the Transfiguration in Matthew 17:1-9, Mark 9:2-9 and Luke 9:28-36.  See also 2 Peter 1:16-19.
