Short Talks

This section of the website comprises short stand-alone talks and articles on different aspects of the Christian Faith, including the teaching of Jesus, the seasons of the Church’s Year and Feasts and Festivals.  More talks/sermons/homilies/articles will be added in due course.

The section of the website entitled The Christian Faith provides more extended teaching on larger content areas, such as the Creed and the Sacraments.

The Door of the Sheep

“…I am the door of the sheep” (RSV, John 10:7)

Only when we actually see God shall we understand what he is really like. And that experience will be completely shattering. All our present ideas of God are hopelessly small because they are limited by our human minds which form them.

The Good Shepherd

“I am the good shepherd” (RSV, John 10:11)

We are familiar with the picture of Our Blessed Lord as the Good Shepherd, crook in hand, peacefully leading his flock on a gently sloping hillside. But the picture that Our Lord gives of himself is very different. It is that of a shepherd locked in mortal combat with a ravenous wolf, while his sheep huddle helplessly together behind him.

The Light of the World

“…I am the light of the world” (RSV, John 9:5)

Our Lord spoke these words as he prepared to heal a blind man in Jerusalem and in speaking them he turned the miracle into an acted parable. The man in question had been born blind and Our Lord gave him his sight, by anointing his eyes with clay and sending him to wash them clean in the nearby pool of Siloam.
