This section of the website provides more extended teaching on larger content areas, such as the Creed and the Sacraments. It begins with Introduction·to the Christian Faith.  More content will be added in due course.

The section entitled Short Talks comprises stand-alone talks and articles on different aspects of the Christian Faith, including the teaching of Jesus, the seasons of the Church’s Year and Feasts and Festivals.· 

 

Eucharist: Liturgy of the Sacrament (Eucharistic Prayer)

After the Offertory, when the bread and wine are placed on the altar and offered to God, there comes the Eucharistic Prayer.  The priest says or sings the familiar words: “The Lord be with you” and then “Lift up your hearts”. (1) So we are asked to lift up our hearts to God, and because we have come to offer Our Lord to God in thanksgiving for our salvation, the priest continues with the words Jesus himself used at the Last Supper (2), “Let us give thanks to the Lord our God”. (3)

The Consecration

You will remember that in the Eucharist, when the priest does what Our Lord did at the Last Supper and offers Our Lord to God and uses his own words (“This is my Body, this is my Blood”), then the forms of Bread and Wine on the altar and Our Lord’s Ascended Body in Heaven become one in the Blessed Sacrament.

The Eucharist and daily life

Some people seem to have the odd idea that the Christian Faith has very little to do with one’s ordinary life, and that what one does in church on Sundays is completely separate from what one does outside church on weekdays.
