Short Talks

This section of the website comprises short stand-alone talks and articles on different aspects of the Christian Faith, including the teaching of Jesus, the seasons of the Church’s Year and Feasts and Festivals.  More talks/sermons/homilies/articles will be added in due course.

The section of the website entitled The Christian Faith provides more extended teaching on larger content areas, such as the Creed and the Sacraments.

Luke, Evangelist

St Luke was a gentile, a Greek, who lived in the first century AD.  He was a physician and a disciple of St Paul whom he accompanied on some of his missionary journeys.  He was the author of the Gospel which bears his name and also the Acts of the Apostles. (1,2)

Perseverance

“…Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me…Only Luke is with me.” (NRSV 2 Timothy 4:10,11)

Apart from the fact that St Luke wrote not only the Gospel which bears his name but also the first history of the Church – the Acts of the Apostles – we know very little about him.  However, St Paul’s description of him as the beloved physician (Colossians 4:14) tells us not only that he was a doctor but also that he was a very lovable sort of person.  And it is that side of his character which emerges in his writings.  There he is revealed as a gentle, friendly, happy soul who has left an example for us all to follow in his true love for Our Lord Jesus Christ and in his trusty loyalty to his fellow Christians.

Mary, the Blessed Virgin

It is right that we honour and give thanks for our earthly mothers, especially remembering them on special anniversaries such as their birthday and on special occasions such as Mothering Sunday.· And we do the same for Mary, the Mother of Our Lord – Our Lady.· Innumerable Anglican churches are dedicated to St Mary the Virgin and in Norfolk we have the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham.
